I'm Carter, and all my life, I've wanted to make movies and tell stories. Ever since I was little, I’ve been obsessed with movies. I’m told that when I was very young, I would watch Finding Nemo over and over again.
There was a time when I didn’t think I could work in film because I was too uncomfortable acting and always worried about what other people thought. Eventually, I learned about stunt work and realized I would be perfect for that job.
I grew up in a small town outside of Toronto called Ajax, and since nothing really happens there, I had to find my own ways to have fun. I was drawn to extreme sports like rock climbing, martial arts, gymnastics, and skateboarding. If there was a sense of danger, I was in—which is also partly why I was drawn to stunt work. Since I had no idea how to start working as a stuntman, I figured I’d go to school for acting in hopes to meet people who could get me in.
The first time I auditioned for schools, I only got into one: Centennial College, for their Theatre Program. To say I hated it would be an understatement. At the start of my second semester, The Batman came out in theaters, and I would sometimes skip class, walk up the street, and go watch it. I must have seen that movie at least ten times in theaters. That film gave me the drive to keep going.
During my second semester, I applied only to George Brown College for their Acting for Media program. For some reason, I thought I didn’t need to apply anywhere else—and luckily, I got in. At the start of the next school year, I began attending George Brown College, and that’s where I found my home. At this point, I was still only interested in stunt work, but the more I attended classes and the more I learned, I realized I wanted to be an actor. I put stunt work aside and went all in on acting—and I haven’t looked back since.
